MARGMA Closed Door Dialogue
MARGMA held a closed-door dialogue session with the Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Johari Bin Abdul Ghani.
A productive dialogue session was held between the Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Johari bin Abdul Ghani, and key figures from the Malaysian rubber glove industry. The session was highly engaging as industry players were able to share concerns and directly exchange ideas with the Minister, as well as representatives from the Malaysian Rubber Council and the Malaysian Rubber Board.
The dialogue highlighted the sector’s critical role in the national economy and the urgent challenges it faces. MARGMA President emphasised the industry’s significant contribution, accounting for 65% of the total rubber sector, and its global reach, exporting high quality Malaysian made gloves to 195 countries. Despite being in the lead position, the industry has seen its global market share decline from nearly 70% to around 40% due to intense international competition and rising operational costs. Industry leaders presented some concerns including high energy costs, workforce shortages and the need for reinvestment allowances among other matters.
The session underscored the industry’s plea for support and stronger collaborative efforts to maintain Malaysia’s leadership in the global rubber glove market and safeguard its extensive supporting ecosystem.
